Adding myself to the world of CCIE bloggers.

July 15, 2008

Hello out there.

Ok so without further ado i now have my ccie blog started. I hope i can keep up with the blogger gurus out there. cciepursuit, ardenpackeer, etherealmind, bitbucket, ethan & last but not least blindhog whose videos are just awesome.

I contemplated starting this for some time now. I used to have a blog in the past but it was more on a personal level, i would post about stuff i was interested in, and well after a while i got burned out on it and yanked it.

This journey of mine for a CCIE number ( in R/S ) started an year ago, i studied on and off to get past the written. What makes it a bit difficult for me is that i am employed by a cisco competitor. Most of my day is spent working on non cisco related products.

I began my studies by going over as much theory as possible, and along the way i took a class at a local community college hoping to not only network and meet some peers in the field but to get some hands on experience as well. Sad to say it didnt work out as best as i hoped it would. The equipment was sub par, i actually had better equipment at home on my rack ( which btw has been sold off thanks to dynamips ). Another item that bothered me was on the first day our instructor wanted to know what reference materials we were going to be using, that later on I found out meant cheat sheets!!! Regardless to say the class didnt go anywhere for me.

Now that the how i got started part is out of the way, here is what i accomplished in the past few months. I managed to pass the written on June 7th 2008 and have since been browsing/lurking call it what you may CCIE blogs & groupstudy to see what my peers in the field are preparing with/for the lab. Since my daily work doesn’t entail any Cisco equipment, my preparation material has been IEBW VOL 1 & 2, boosted with daily doses of where do i find the configuration answer or command on the doc cd. My M.O. for the next 4/5 weeks is to repeat the IEBW Vol 2 workbook as much as i can so the technology becomes second hand to me. Once i am comfortable with the workbook then its off to the races with IEBW Vol 3 which has my hands itching to get at.

Before i forget, i did sign up for the lab in San Jose, Oct 30th Thursday 2008 is the big day, so i hope to be prepared for it as well as i can be.

Ok so theres a bit of background about myself. I hope i can add to the daily task of blogging and learn as well as teach others out there what i have learned.

  1. Welcome to the blog world (Cisco, that is)! I hope to learn from some of your experience just as I have been with the awesome CCIE blogs you mentioned above.
